LIFE Mission changing lives in Kochi

Inauguration of the LIFE Mission in Thalikulam, Kochi

We went to an inauguration program of Life Mission launched by the panchayat of Thalikulam, which is a massive campaign to provide housing to 514 low-income population. LIFE stands for Livelihood, Inclusion and Financial Empowerment. We also visited a Primary Health Care center there and were amazed to see the clean and healthy environment, far better than that of any private hospitals nearby. It was very nice to see such amazing progresses done through the Gram Panchayat.

After this, we went to visit the Thalikulam Vikas Trust in Thrissur. They provide opportunities to low-income population by providing loans in lower interests. Just like Kudumbashree, they help women to form joint liability groups and empowering them through providing platforms as such. They also provide space for elderly population in the locality, to gather and engage in creative activities. We got an opportunity to meet the elders, who welcomed us with a melodious song, followed by a delicious South Indian meal in a banana leaf!
